SUSPENSION OF CLASSES IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PRE-SCHOOLS AND ELEMENTARY LEVEL IN ILOILO CITY ON TUESDAY, NOV. 20, 2018

“As Mayor of Iloilo City, I hereby order the suspension of classes at the pre-school and elementary level in all public and private schools, in the City of Iloilo tomorrow, November 20, 2018 due to Tropical Depression Samuel that placed Iloilo City under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 which will bring moderate to heavy rains that may trigger flooding in the city. TD Samuel has maintained its strength as it moves west-northwestward at 20 kph with a maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.
Given this, I am convinced that our pre-school children and elementary pupils, considered exposed and vulnerable population, should be protected from the possible effects of strong winds and heavy rainfall starting tomorrow. The cancellation of classes seeks to ensure the safety of our children from possible flooding and from any sickness, injuries or accidents as a result thereof. Their general welfare is the topmost concern of the city government.
The City DRRM Office continues to monitor weather updates through DOST PAGASA and other related warning agencies on the weather conditions. Also, members of our Response Clusters are on stand by for any emergencies.
